Necklaces for Necklines: Pairing the Perfect Necklace with Different Necklines

Necklaces for Necklines: Pairing the Perfect Necklace with Different Necklines

Why Necklines Matter:

It is important to understand what necklaces go with what necklines.  Not knowing what necklaces to pair with what necklines can totally throw off your look. After spending money on your outfit and jewelry, do you really want to throw off your look? I didn’t think so.  With that said, you don't have to overthink it, that is why we created this guide for you. Now I know we discuss only four necklines, but if you would like to leave a comment at the bottom of this page other necklines you would like to know about, we will be happy to help!

V-neck – Pick a necklace that matches the same shape as the V-neck

V-necks naturally pull people’s eyes to the cleavage area. Therefore, it is best that your necklace does the same. A necklace that creates the same V shape is ideally what you want to choose.
Where your necklace falls is important too. You don’t want the necklace to be too long, where it falls past your neckline but, you also don’t want it to be too short where the distance between the necklace and neckline is too much. You want the necklace to fall about an inch above your neckline.
Avoid any necklaces that doesn’t compliment the V shape.

Scoop neck – Pick a necklace that will fill in the space, like larger pendants

Scoop necklines have a deep curve and wide neckline. This kind of neckline is the easiest for choosing necklaces. A necklace with volume, layers or larger pendants is perfect. If you like more dainty pieces, then layering necklaces will do the trick!
Avoid chokers or small pendants. Remember, you want to fill in the space.

Crew Neckline – Pick a smaller, shorter necklaces like, collar or bib style

Playing with the length of your necklace is key. The necklace should be slightly longer than the crew neckline or just above. This looks great with different short necklaces. You can choose a cute chain with a dainty pendant or for a more bold statement, go with a collar or bib style.
Avoid chokers and very long necklaces.

Tank Tops – Pick a long necklace

Tank tops are more squared off in the chest area so choosing a long necklace will help soften the neckline. Make sure the necklace is way past the neckline.
Avoid short, pendant necklaces and chokers. You want to stay away from necklaces you would choose for a scoop neckline. Since tank tops tend to have a more square neckline, something you’d choose for a scoop neckline would just enhance the square shape.
